Dog Walking Volunteer Orientation
Feb 7, 2012 (4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)
Dog Walking Orientations are held every few weeks at the shelter. Volunteers who want to work with the dogs (husbandry or walking) must attend dog walking orientation prior to handling the dogs.
Orientation Information
DCAS strives to ensure every animal at the shelter receives the love and care they deserve and by volunteering to be a dog walker you are assisting us with this goal. The orientation is to make you familiar with the Dog Walking Program and to provide you with basic knowledge of dog behaviour, how you can impact the lives of the dogs you are walking and how to be safe on your walks.
In addition this gives us an opportunity to meet you and ensure your Volunteer processing is complete. Volunteers are required to have a Criminal Records Check (CRC) completed; we ask that you bring your picture identification to the orientation so we are able to process your CRC.
During the orientation we will be taking note of your volunteer availability. Dog walkers are asked to commit to a minimum of 2 hours each week. This will help you make the biggest impact on the lives of the shelter dogs. The staff and more importantly the animals will be relying on you so please ensure it is a day you can commit to.
Dog Walking Shifts:
- Shift 1: 10am - 12pm (All week)
- Shift 2: 12pm - 3pm (All week)
- Shift 3: 4pm - 6pm (Mon - Fri) OR 3pm to 5pm (Sat/Sun)
Be sure to wear appropriate clothing to the Orientation as we will be hands on with the dogs and outside (even if it is raining). As space is limited if you are unable to attend please call the shelter as soon as possible. (604) 940-7111
