Adoption Process

Our goal is to find every animal a home which will provide a safe, healthy environment to nurture an emotionally balanced pet. Every animal at DCAS has their own personality, special interests and needs. We take pride in matching animals to new homes where both the owner and pet will enjoy an equally rewarding friendship.

All potential adopters complete an Adoption Survey/Application where we gather information to help us match new owners with animals in the shelter.

CAT ADOPTIONS:

When you come into the shelter we will ask you to complete a short (16 question) Adopter Survey.  This survey helps us to determine what type of cat personality (Feline-ality) would best match your home.  All cats over 9 months of age are tested with the ASPCA's Meet Your Match (MYM) Feline-ality assessment and assigned a color.  After reviewing your survey you will be assigned a color (orange, purple or green) that matches the cat personalities that best suites the type of companion you are looking for.   Then its time for fun -->  Take your color pass and find the cats we have that best suites you!  You aren't required to only pick a cat that has a matching color but it will help us ensure you know what to expect with your new friend when they come home!

Meet the different Feline-alities!

Find out if your PURR-fect match could be waiting for you!

DOG ADOPTIONS

Once we receive your completed Dog Application, the dog you have chosen will be placed on our "pending list" until your application is processed. All applications are accepted and will be processed in the order they are received. However, we do reserve the right to place an animal in a home that we feel is more appropriate based on DCAS policy and the animal's specific needs.

Delta Community Animal Shelter does not do same-day adoptions for dogs.  We recognize that you will be very excited and eager to bring your new companion home and we will do our best to process your application within a few days.  Over those days we encourage you to visit the shelter to visit with your new friend.

RABBIT / SMALL ANIMAL / BIRD ADOPTIONS:

Birds and small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and hamsters require the same commitment that their cat and dog friends do.  Many families decide to get a small animal or bird as the first pet.  DCAS encourages you to do your research before choosing one of these special companions.  Many can live for 5- 10 years and in the case of birds they can live longer than the time your child will be in your home!  A Small Animal Adoption Application is required and staff will help you ensure you find the right pet for your family.
