Common Complaints
Barking Dogs
The Delta Noise Control bylaw requires that:
- "No owner of any dog or dogs shall cause or permit such dog or dogs to make noise anywhere in the Corporation of Delta which disturbs the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of the neighbourhood or of a person or persons in the vicinity".
The Delta Community Animal Shelter enforces this bylaw when a complaint is received from an area resident. An Animal Control Officer will attend the area, address the concern with the dog owner, and encourage bylaw compliance. Fines can be issued should the problem continue.

Dangerous/Aggressive Dog Concerns
The Delta Community Animal Shelter investigates complaints related to dogs which may have aggressively pursued, attacked or bitten another animal, or a person. Once determined to be a dangerous or aggressive dog, the Animal Control Bylaw applies several responsibilities designed to maintain public safety.
When a dangerous dog is not in the home it must be:
- muzzled and under the control of a person who is competent to control the dog
- within a closed and locked enclosure that has 4 walls, a floor and roof that the dog cannot get out of or a child can enter
- an increased licensing fee that helps cover the cost associated to an annual visit to the home by an Animal Control Officer to ensure they have a clear understanding of their responsibilities and to provide support for rehabilitation of the dog.
Deceased Animal Pick Up
Delta Community Animal Shelter will pick up deceased pets from the owners home and will make arrangements for cremation as per the owners request. Animals will also be accepted at the shelter by the owner. However, the shelter does recommend consulting with your veterinarian first if you have, one as they will want to assist you with making cremation arrangements through them. In addition, your veterinarian will be able to provide you with more personalized service as they have had a relationship with your pet previously.Fees for deceased pet pick up and cremation are outlined in the bylaw or you can call the shelter at (604)940-7111 for more information.
WILDLIFE OR STRAY ANIMALS
The Corporation of Delta Engineering department will pick up dead animals from all Delta roadways and public streets. Contact them at (604)946-5334
The Engineering department will notify DCAS staff should the animal they pick up be domestic (such as a cat or dog) so that we can attempt to contact the owner of the pet. We know the heartache related to having a pet go missing and we want to ensure owners receive emotional closure whenever possible.
